Since 1997, Custom Cuts has been dedicated to creating exceptional outdoor spaces through high‑quality landscaping and design‑build services. Our team specializes in landscape design, paver and stone wall installations, landscape lighting, water features, site grading and drainage solutions, and full‑service lawn maintenance.
What began with owner Jeff Patterson mowing a neighbor’s lawn with a 21” Lawn Boy mower has grown into a trusted, full‑service landscaping company. Jeff continued to build the business while studying at the University of Maryland, where he earned degrees in Business and Turfgrass Management—knowledge that still shapes our work today.
In 2025, the company reached an exciting milestone as Jeff’s son, Michael, joined the team full‑time and now leads our maintenance division. With two generations working side by side, Custom Cuts is stronger than ever.
Meet Our Team
Jeff Patterson
Owner
Jeff Patterson founded Custom Cuts and continues to guide every project from the first client meeting to the final walkthrough. He takes pride in listening closely to homeowners and bringing their backyard visions to life.
With more than 25 years of experience in lawn care and landscape design, Jeff is committed to exceeding expectations and delivering exceptional customer service. He holds a Turfgrass Management degree from the University of Maryland, maintains a Maryland Fertilizer License, and regularly attends industry trade shows and manufacturer trainings to stay current with the latest techniques and design trends.
Outside of work, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, and their children, Erin and Michael. The family loves relaxing at their home on Lake Anna, VA, where Jeff is happiest doing anything on the water.
Michael Patterson
Crew Manager
Michael Patterson has been working summers with Custom Cuts throughout high school, proudly carrying on the family legacy as the second generation in the business. After graduating in 2025, he stepped into a full‑time role, taking on everything from leading mowing crews to managing snow and ice removal during the winter months.
With each passing season, Michael continues to expand his skills and experience. He approaches every property with the same care and attention to detail he would give his own, ensuring clients receive exceptional service every time.
Looking ahead, Michael plans to return to college to study business, preparing himself to help grow and strengthen the company for decades to come.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with family and friends, working on anything with an engine, and relaxing at the family home on Lake Anna, Virginia.
Travis Wickstrom
Lawn Technician
Travis joined Custom Cuts in 2024, bringing with him a strong background across multiple trades. With hands‑on experience in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and several years of landscape installation, he offers a well‑rounded skill set that strengthens every project he touches. Travis is always looking for ways to improve efficiency, quality, and the overall customer experience.
He began his time with the company on the mowing crew and has since transitioned primarily into landscape installation. Most recently, Travis has been contributing to the hardscape division, where he’s excited to take on larger, more complex projects as the team continues to grow.
Outside of work, Travis is a proud father of two. He enjoys spending time with his kids and doing just about anything outdoors.
Michael Cooper
Landscape/Hardscape Technician
Michael joined Custom Cuts in 2023, bringing with him many years of experience in landscaping and ornamental turf maintenance. Highly detail‑oriented and driven by a passion for learning, he continually looks for ways to grow his skills and elevate the quality of every project he works on.
Known for his willingness to take on new challenges, Michael approaches each task with creativity and determination. His strong mindset and work ethic make him a valuable asset to the team, and he consistently strives to exceed customer expectations. Since joining the company, he has been an integral part of the maintenance division and is working toward leading crews in both turf maintenance and mulch installation.
Outside of work, Michael is a proud husband and father. He values family time and is committed to ongoing self‑improvement.
